HANDMADE MOUTH-BLOWN GLASS

In handmade, mouth-blown glass, glass objects are made by blowing air into red-hot, liquefied glass. It is a rather difficult glass art technique and requires a great deal of patience and aptitude.
 
The hot and liquid glass is "picked" using a pipe in a melting furnace. At the end of the pipe, the glass is formed using wooden or metal tool and by blowing into the pipe. Work is done at a temperature ranging from 1100 - 1200 degrees Celsius.
 

CRISTALGLASS

Glass is called crystal glass when it contains more than 10 percent lead oxide. When the glass contains more than 30 percent lead, it is high lead crystal, such as Swarovski. Higher lead content increases the refractive index of the glass. A material with a high refractive index exhibits more brilliance and has a richer color spectrum.
