As an urban planner and artist, Roel Meertens presents cityscapes and cycling events in his own unique way. From urban development he has learned to look at the surroundings in a certain way. Observing, experiencing and shaping space has gradually become his second nature. 

With his unique style, Roel Meertens has already 'imagined' several cities. After Rotterdam, South Limburg and Maastricht in particular is an important source of inspiration. His colourful illustrations have a playful character and seem to have run away from a comic book. The drawings are made using various techniques, such as pen, brush, coloured pencil, pastel crayon and paint. Most of his work has been digitally manipulated.
